Expecting Parents
Congratulations! Preparing for a new addition is an exciting journey, and we are honored that your family is considering Parkside Pediatrics as your baby’s medical home. Our goal is to make your transition from the hospital to our clinic as stress-free as possible.
Your First Days With Parkside Pediatrics
Preparing for Baby’s Arrival
Your first moments with your little ones are precious. At Parkside Pediatrics, we keep our processes simple, to make sure you can enjoy every second of it.
To ensure a seamless transition for your baby’s care, please establish your family’s care with our office prior to delivery (the earlier, the better!). Establishing care now means that when your due date arrives, your baby’s medical home is already waiting for them.
On the big day, you won’t need to worry about contacting us on your way to the delivery room. Once you’re at the hospital, simply list us as your pediatrician. The hospital staff will notify us of the birth for you, and we’ll take it from there.
Visits at the Hospital
If you deliver at one of the hospitals where we round, we will visit you and your baby during your stay to perform the first exams. We currently round at:
- Mercy Hospital
- Integris Lakeside Women’s Hospital
- Integris Baptist Medical Center (Dr. Grim only)
If you deliver at a different location, the on-call hospital pediatrician will care for your baby during your stay. They will provide Parkside Pediatrics with all necessary records so we can continue your little one’s care the moment you arrive at our office.
Your First Office Visit
After discharge, it will be time for your baby’s first appointment at our clinic. The hospital staff will let you know when it is time to schedule this; it is usually 2-3 days after discharge.
At Parkside Pediatrics, we always save same-day spaces in our schedule specifically for newly discharged newborns, so you never have to worry about “finding a spot” for your baby.
When you are ready to leave the hospital, just give us a call, and we will have an appointment waiting for you.
Expecting Parent FAQs
What happens during my baby’s first checkups?
Your baby’s first year is a season of rapid growth. During your initial checkups, we focus on feeding support, weight monitoring, milestone checks, and other newborn screenings. These visits are designed to be unhurried, so you always have a dedicated space to ask questions as you navigate this first year of parenthood.
Do I need to schedule a prenatal consult?
What if I have questions after hours?
Parenthood doesn’t always follow a schedule (especially in the early days). That’s why our team is here to help guide you through the “newborn fog” at any hour. If you have questions that arise when the clinic is closed, please feel free to send us a portal message that we can answer during office hours the following day, or call our after-hours nurse triage line for urgent medical needs.
What is your clinic’s vaccine policy?
We are committed to protecting your baby from the very start. Parkside Pediatrics follows the AAP-recommended immunization schedule to ensure your child is protected against highly contagious diseases, outlined in our vaccine policy.
